What To Look For In a New Therapist

When finding a new therapist it can be hard to know what to look out for. Here are the most important things to pay attention to:

  • Degrees- A qualified therapist needs to hold a Masters Degree or higher, or be working toward those degrees under professional supervision.
  • Licenses- Whether you are having an in-person or virtual session, your therapist must be licensed in the state that you currently reside in.
  • Certifications- Many therapists will be certified in specialized areas, such as couples recovery, or they may be certified in different treatment modalities.

Making sure your therapist has the right education to treat you can make the biggest difference in whether or not counseling works for you. At Emerald Cove Counseling, all of our therapists hold degrees and certifications to help best treat you.
